X, Y & Z: The Real Story of How
Enigma Was Broken
WASHINGTON, D.C. On the evening of April 9, 2019 our Embassy was pleased to host Sir Dermot Turing, who gave a presentation on his newest book X, Y & Z: The Real Story of How Enigma Was Broken. The book describes the work between Poles, French and British to break the Enigma code, which played a major role in the Allied victory over Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
The event began with opening remarks by Deputy Chief of Mission Paweł Kotowski, who called attention to how the presentation is part of a series of events organized by our Embassy promoting quality historical literature about Poland’s contribution to Allied efforts during World War II. During his presentation, Sir Turing spoke to a large audience about the key role Polish cryptologists played in deciphering the German Enigma code and about their cooperation with the other Allied nations.
Accompanying the event was the exhibit Enigma – Decipher Victory on Polish mathematicians who contributed to breaking the Enigma code, prepared by the Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region and produced by our Embassy. Following the presentation, Dermot Turing signed copies of his book for event participants. Read more here.
