The Passing of Stanislaw
Kazimierz Cybulski (1926-2016)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanisław Kazimierz Cybulski (Dec 5, 1926 – Sept 2, 2016), former long-time president of the Friends of John Paul II Foundation in Southern California.  Along with Mr. Gwoździowski, Mr. Cybulski founded the Friends of John Paul II Foundation chapter in Southern California in 1987 and served as its devoted president for 23 years.
From the moment of his arrival in California in 1955, Mr. Cybulski took a very active part in the social and cultural life of the Polish community in Southern California.  Among his many roles have been: president of the Polish Saturday school (Polish Alma Mater) in Los Angeles, editor, commentator and presenter of the Polish Radio Hour in Los Angeles, and director of Krakusy Polish Folk Dance Ensemble.  Mr. Cybulski was a poet who communicated his childhood wartime experiences through this art form.  He organized poetry readings and literary events at the Polish Millennium Library and the Polish Cultural Club in Los Angeles.  His most cherished cause and greatest legacy is the Friends of John Paul II Foundation, which he called “his life”.  Mr. Cybulski’s passing will be greatly felt by our John Paul II Foundation chapter and by all of Polonia in Southern California.
For his contributions to the John Paul II Foundation and the Catholic Church, Mr. Cybulski received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice cross from two popes: from Pope St John Paul II in 1993 and from Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.   He also received Poland’s Silver Cross of Merit in 1971 and Poland’s Gold Cross of Merit in 1987.  President Lech Walesa honored Mr. Cybulski with the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 1993.
Although health issues over the past several years forced Mr. Cybulski to stop his active participation in the life of Polonia in Southern California, he was always with us in spirit, always ready to share his wisdom and impart advice, especially where the Friends of John Paul II Foundation was concerned.  We will greatly miss this warm and gregarious soul, a good Catholic, and an ardent Polish patriot – Mr. Stanislaw Kazimierz Cybulski.  We express our deepest condolences to his wife Henryka, his son, his grandchildren, and his whole family.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.
The Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, Sept 10, 2016 at Our Lady of the Bright Mount Polish Church and St John Paul II Shrine: 3424 W Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018 at 11:00 AM.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Friends of John Paul II Foundation in Southern California, which will subsequently be sent to the Foundation in Rome.
