Well another month has gone by… another month of lots of great polka happenings to report. This is also the second Michigan Beat column that is only seen on the Post Eagle webpage. The Michigan Beat hopes everyone is enjoying reading my column in this form as you did in newspaper form. I look forward to continuing on with bringing you all the great polka news that I have. Also I continue to let you know that I write in my column the events that you send me. Just let me know of the events by email at rollingreporter@Hotmail.com or mail to 258 Thornridge Ct. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
Alex Meixner & the band has a lot going on. The end of September this band played in Wausau, WI at the Bull Falls Brewery. This is a high energy band that you don’t want to miss the next time they are in your area. In the coming weeks this band will be performing in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio & Michigan.
There was an Oktoberfest at Glendora House in Chicago Ridge, IL. This event featured another high energy polka band, BOX ON, from Michigan. If you have never seen this band, you need to go out to see them perform the next time they are in your area. At the end of August, all the polka followers in the Michigan Beats area (West Michigan) were able to enjoy this band. If you like the Polka Family Band, you will also like this band! Go out and see why I say that!
The Michigan Beat just enjoyed a weekend (the day before this article was written) filled with German & Polka music at the Oktoberfest in Grand Rapids, MI. There was music by a few different German choirs, The Grand Rapids, MI Accordion Club, The Linda Lee Band from Frankenmuth, MI and finally the music of Squeeze Box from Ohio with Ted Lange.
Now, the day that this column was written, was the official start of Pulaski Days in Grand Rapids, MI. On that day, a Flag Raising was held at one of Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Polish halls. This is a week-long celebration of our Polish Heritage in Grand Rapids, MI. There will be a complete report on the events of Pulaski Days in Grand Rapids, MI in the next edition of The Michigan Beat.
