Well, it has been awhile since you have heard from the Michigan Beat. That means that there should be lots to talk about. But always remember, if you want to see your information in my column, please let me know about it. Email the information to rollingreporter@hotmail.com today. The Michigan Beat would love to let everyone know what you have going on.
The Polka Boosters Club of America (on the east side of Michigan) has monthly dances and just held a dance a few weeks ago. For this dance, the music was provided by America’s Concertina King, Jersey Polka Richie. Many people attended the dance and everyone had a great time!
The Spring Fling Polka dance took place in Grand Rapids, MI the first part of May. This is an annual dance with many bands performing: The Ray Watkoski Family Band, The Diddle Styx, Joanie & the Polka Tripps and Larry & the Larks. All of these bands are from West Michigan / the Grand Rapids or the Traverse City, Michigan area. This event also includes a dinner and an auction. All of the money collected at this event goes towards The Ed & Irene Flies Education Fund – helping kids to further their education.
Just as the weather began to turn nice a few weeks ago in Grand Rapids, Michigan, there was the Big Fat Polish Wedding. This event took place at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish / Sacred Heart Academy Catholic Classical Academy. There was both Polish and Italian food, and Polish / Polka music by the Diddle Styx from Grand Rapids, MI. There was a great turn out at this event!
Jimmy Sturr & Molly B with Squeeze Box with be having a cruise at the end of this year. Many are looking forward to that!
Mike Sheider from Wisconsin has a lot going on with Pint Size Polkas, and other events in many states. The Mike Sheider Band did play in West Michigan a month or so ago. This was for West Michigan / Muskegon polka DJ Tom Sanocki’s Pizza & Polkas event which took place at the Fracono Event Center in Muskegon, MI. This event brought in hundreds of people.
I hope that you have found a polka event or two to attend this month. Happy Polka dancing!
