A lot to tell you about this month so let’s get started. But before I do that, please remember to continue to email information to me anytime at rollingreporter@hotmail.com or send info to 258 Thornridge Ct. NW Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Thanks to our fearless leader of the Post Eagle, Christine, I can report the following information in this column and it will be printed.
The Diocese of Grand Rapids, MI has just welcomed their new “Polish” bishop, Bishop David J. Walkowiak. The diocese is comprised of 11 counties of Western Michigan: Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montclam, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola and Ottawa and includes over one hundred parishes and thirty-five Catholic schools. Bishop Walkowiak is a “newly” ordained bishop coming to us from Cleveland, Ohio. Our 12th bishop of Grand Rapids was installed on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013. This could be viewed from a few local TV station websites and also from close circuit TV at some West Michigan churches. The ordination ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is something that will not be forgotten.
I was also involved (the week that I wrote this article) in Vacation Bible School at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven, MI. There was spiritual music at this week long event! Each day started off with a set of spiritual music, with all joining in.
Now polka information. Fred Ziwich played in Illinois, MN, Cleveland, Ohio and finally for Alex Meixner at the Beachland Ballroom Show. He was requested as a fill in for this event.
Polka Fireworks in Seven Spring’s PA this weekend – July 4-7. This is sure to be a crowd pleaser with a total of fourteen of the nation’s top polka bands. This year’s event also includes a Teen Mixer Party! This is an attempt to get the younger generation into polka music.
Let’s talk about Steve Meisner… He has a new CD “Meisner Time” that is a hit with fans! Steve is getting many compliments right on his website about this latest recording! Steve Meisner is also going to be playing many upcoming dates in the state of Wisconsin, check it out!
Finally on the national seen… Squeeze Box from Ohio has been playing in Ohio, Illinois and at Black Bear Casino in MN. Mike Scheider has had dates in WI, IA, IL, NC, TX & Kentucky. Dennis Polisky & the Maestro’s Men have a new CD entitled, “Enjoy The Little Things”. They also played the Pierogi Fest in Three Rivers, MA. Finally USPA was rockin’ or you could say polkaing for them!
