Thanks to all who supported the Clifton Community Blood Drive on 11/29. In total, 25 units were donated (14 units of whole blood, 4 units of red cells, and 7 units of plasma.) The turnout was 21 registered donors of whom 3 were deferred – not a bad turnout for a drive during the year-end holidays!
It was especially good to see there were first-time participants this time because the active donor pool is shrinking. We miss our WWII vets who over the years gave blood so regularly, tracking their total donations by the gallons! Some potential donors are temporarily or permanently deferred because of things such as travel, certain medications, illness, or exposure to communicable diseases.
To ensure that there is blood available when it is needed, it is crucial to recruit new donors. We hope you — and your readers– can join us at our next Clifton Community Blood Drive in a few months (date TBA).
With appreciation on behalf of the Clifton Health Department, PBA #36, and those patients who will benefit from the blood products collected that day,
Leslie Leonard
