Spencer Savings Bank Raises More Than $3,000 To Benefit Relay For Life of Bloomfield, N.J.

Elmwood Park, N.J. (October 17, 2012) – Spencer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Elmwood Park, N.J., raised more than $3,000 to support the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer. Spencer Savings Bank’s team of employees and their family members participated in the 2012 Relay for Life of Bloomfield event, held from Friday, October 5 to Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Demarest Elementary School in Bloomfield, N.J.

Spencer Savings Bank’s team, Tony’s Angels, exceeded their $2,500 fundraising goal. 308 people, totaling 30 teams, participated in the two-day event. Tony’s Angels was recognized as one of the top five donating teams to contribute to the $47,590 raised. The team’s overwhelming devotion to the community was displayed throughout the entirety of the event, as people took turns walking around the track, honoring lost loved ones and showing support for family and friends who have survived or are currently battling the disease.

“Relay for Life is an incredible event held in our community, which unites our neighbors for a very worthy cause,” said Janel Bazih, AVP and Marketing Manager. “It is very important to us, as a community bank, to raise money for research initiatives and for the loved ones in our community who are fighting this terrible, life-threatening disease. Our longstanding dedication to make a difference in the communities we serve is evidenced by our continuous participation in a variety of events, such as Relay for Life. We are proud to participate in Relay for Life, to help generate awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, honor those who we have lost, and give additional encouragement to those who are currently batting this tiresome fight.”

Spencer Savings Bank’s team, Tony’s Angel’s, engaged in numerous fundraising tactics to help raise money for the event. Leading up to the event, select bank branches held ongoing bake sales with jumbo-sized cookies and other treats, and the bank hosted an employee raffle. Spencer Savings Bank’s efforts continued onsite of the event, and their primary efforts included a nail station where participants received manicures, and a tattoo station for children to enjoy. The team also hosted a “Spin-to-Win” game for participants to win prizes, and sold cold beverages at the event to generate money for the cause, as well.

Centered on generating growth through reinvestment of local deposits into the community, Spencer Savings Bank proudly supports charitable organizations, local business and workforce initiatives, civic groups, youth programs, and other community focused organizations.
