Rep. Pascrell Statement On Gaza Ceasefire
PATERSON, NJ (August 26, 2014) – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today issued the following statement regarding reports of Israel and Hamas accepting an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire today:
“I remain hopeful that that today’s ceasefire will lead to a long-term agreement, including the demilitarization of Hamas and more economic opportunities and much needed humanitarian aid for the people Gaza. During my recent trip to Israel, I gained tremendous insight into relations in the region through meetings with many experts, including former Israeli President Shimon Peres and former Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Upon my return, I met with leaders in New Jersey’s Arab and Jewish communities and remain convinced that both sides want a long-term agreement that strengthens security and prevents further violence. Today’s ceasefire marks a positive step in this direction.”
