Today’s word is PRESTIGE.
Someone who has PRESTIGE has HONOR, GLORY, AND A POPULAR REPUTATION.
The Latin phrase – PRESTE DIGITAS – means – SLIGHT OF HAND; MAGIC. Politicians were and still are well known for deceiving the public. When a politician promised something, he was usually elected into office. After he was elected into office, he would not fulfill his promise to the people. Therefore, he performed PRESTIGE and deceived the public. Later PRESTIGE came to mean honor and glory because it referred to politicians and how they had an illusion of being high and mighty. However, PRESTIGE can still sometimes be used to mean an illusion or trick.
