The decision to boost defence expenditure, taken against the background of Russia’s war in Ukraine, would see the country spend even more as a proportion of its economy than the United States.
The projections reveal that Poland’s defence spending will reach nearly 4% of its GDP in 2023, placing Warsaw at the top of the NATO rankings for the first time.“Given the evolving geopolitical landscape, there is a need to increase defence spending. Poland stands out as an exemplary leader in this regard, mostly enjoying nationwide support for this spending,” says Marcin Przydacz, an aide to Poland’s President Andrzej Duda.

Przydacz added: “Today, the eastern flank, the countries of the region assume a significant share of responsibility for ensuring the security of the Euro-Atlantic area. There is no justification for other partners to economise on security matters.” Radio Poland’s Michał Owczarek has the story.
