PBA #36 & Clifton Health Department
Seek Blood Donors

CLIFTON, NJ – In June, when folks are excited about end-of-school activities, graduations, weddings, making summer vacation travel plans, etc., donating blood is generally not on our radar. However, the Clifton Health Department and PBA #36 want to change that by asking our community to make blood donation a priority as we head into the summer months when the local stock of blood decreases.

To help keep our area hospitals well-supplied with vital blood and blood components, PBA #36 joins the Clifton Health Department in hosting Clifton’s Community Blood Drive.  Rain or shine, the Bloodmobile will be parked in front of Clifton City Hall, 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, where blood donations will be accepted from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.  Please schedule an appointment by calling Community Blood Services at 201-251-3703.  Learn more at www.communitybloodservices.org.

People in general good health and weighing over 110 pounds are encouraged to donate blood, so long as it has been at least 56 days since a prior donation. Participants are asked to bring photo ID with signature and should be sure to eat a hearty meal shortly before giving blood.

Hemoglobin and blood pressure are tested in the initial screening process.  For those who successfully donate, complimentary non-fasting cholesterol and glucose tests will be done. Donors will also find out their blood type.   As a thank-you gift, each successful donor will receive 2 tickets to the upcoming Meadowlands State Fair, courtesy of State Fair!

According to Community Blood Services:

  • Every 2.5 seconds someone needs blood – a friend, a family member – or maybe even you!
  • Less than 5% of the population donates blood, yet 80% of the population needs blood.
  • Nearly 4 million Americans would die each year without life-saving blood transfusions.

Even if you’ve never donated blood in the past, please consider becoming a blood donor or asking someone to donate on your behalf.  It’s a gift of love and a gift of life.  Put blood donation on your radar! (Then head to the Meadowlands State Fair!)

The Clifton Health Department is a contractual health agency serving the Township of Little Falls.
