POLAND – The International Section European Regional Meeting hosted by the New York State Bar Association was held on April 7-9 at the Międzynarodowe Centrum Kultury (International Cultural Center) in Kraków, Poland. The conference brought together nearly 90 legal experts from the United States, Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Bulgaria who discussed international arbitration and litigation, cross-border contracts and personal data transfer, international tax compliance, and legal issues surrounding the restitution of property to the victims of communism.

New York State Bar Association President David Miranda, along with data privacy experts and a representative from the Bureau of the Inspector General for the Protection of Personal Data in Warsaw, participated in a discussed about cross-border data transfer in light of last fall’s landmark judgment in Max Schrems v. Irish Data Protection Commissioner, which invalidated the Safe Harbor arrangement governing data transfers between the European Union and the United States. Following the daylong event, President Miranda hosted a reception for registered attorneys.
