CLIFTON, NJ – The Theater League of Clifton will present a main-stage production of the musical comedy The Prom at the Clifton High School auditorium, 333 Colfax Ave., on July 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23.
Tickets are priced at $20 in advance ($15 for students and seniors) and $25 at the door ($20 for students and seniors).Tickets can be reserved by calling (973) 928-7668 or visiting the Theater League’s website box office (https://www.theaterleagueofclifton.com/). Performances will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
Lisa Poggi, the drama teacher at Clifton High School, is the director of the production. JoAnne Macbeth is the stage manager, Judi Niebuhr is the choreographer, and Mackenzie Miller is the music director. Mark Peterson and John Traier, members of the Theater League’s executive board, are the producers for the show.
The show’s storyline involves four eccentric Broadway stars in desperate need of a new stage and a new start. When they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town high school prom (a female student wants to bring her girlfriend to the event), they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue and themselves.
The Prom originally opened at the Longacre Theater on Broadway in October 2018 and received the Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Musical.” Netflix, in December 2020, released a film adaptation of the play. The show is being presented through an arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide, and made possible by funds from the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State.
Founded in 2005, the Theater League of Clifton is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the arts through theatrical performances, while providing quality entertainment for all ages. The Theater League of Clifton welcomes volunteers in all aspects of performance and production.
