CLIFTON, NJ – The Matthew “Garbo” Grabowski Music Scholarship was awarded to Donavin Leon at this year’s Clifton High School’s Scholarship Award Ceremony on Thursday, June 13, 2019. The scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 was presented by Councilman Ray Grabowski.
The Athenia Business Association of Clifton established this scholarship in memory of Matt Grabowski. The ABA and the Grabowski family wanted to continue Matt’s legacy of giving back to the community, and to perpetuate his passion for music by giving someone a helping hand in achieving their musical dreams.
Matt’s (Garbo – as he was known in the music industry) creativity knew no limits…. he was a musician, singer and song writer, and also helped others to produce their songs. He appeared on many television, personality and news shows regarding his music throughout the years.
Matt, a Clifton graduate and former Clifton Councilman, was also known in the community for his dedication to Clifton, especially the Athenia section. He always strived to make the community better and wanted to give back to the city he loved. The scholarship was set up specifically for students in their senior year of high school who want to pursue a career in music.
For more information about the scholarship, please go to www.atheniabusiness.com or call 201-410-1686. Applications for next year’s scholarship will be available in November.
We wish Donavin all the best in his future endeavors!
