The Athenia Business Association of Clifton, New Jersey and the Grabowski family announce the formation of the Matt “Garbo” Grabowski Music Scholarship.
Matt’s passion was music, and to honor his legacy, we would like to help a deserving student, who demonstrates a love of music, with their musical career. The Athenia Business Association and the Grabowski family feel this is one way to memorialize Matt and at the same time give back to the community – a community which Matt loved and worked so hard to keep it thriving.
The Athenia Business Association will be the organization funding this scholarship. The award offered will be in the amount of $1,000.00 given annually to a graduating senior of Clifton High School, beginning with the Class of 2016.
CRITERIA – one of the following:
• An original song written and performed by the student which must be sent to us on CD. (Two to three minute performance)
• A 500 (minimum) word essay on why music is so important to the applicant, what or who inspired them, their anticipated goal in music, and what they wish to accomplish in the future regarding their musical talent.
Each year, the ABA committee will review the materials sent in from interested students, and select the scholarship awardee. The winner will be presented with the Matt “Garbo” Grabowski Music Scholarship at the annual scholarship presentation held in May at Clifton High School by the ABA members and the Grabowski Family.
A plaque will be made which will be exhibited in a showcase at Clifton High School naming the scholarship winner(s) each year. On the plaque there will be a picture of Matt Grabowski, and gold plates for the winning student(s) names which will be engraved on same yearly.
