Joint Base Holds World Wrestling Championship

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. — Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst hosts 225 wrestlers from 24 countries during the upcoming 29th Counseil International du Sporte Militaire (CISM) World Wrestling Championship from Sept. 30 to Oct. 8 with a goal of “Uniting armed forces through sports.”

Nations attending the event include Algeria, Armenia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, UAE, Ukraine, and the United States.

Wrestlers will compete in Greco-Roman and Freestyle fighting.

The United States last hosted the CISM World Military Championships in 2000 at the U.S. Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The team earned 12 medals at that event, led by Greco-Roman champion Duaine Martin at 58 kg and freestyle champions Jeff Bedard at 63 kg and Mike Van Arsdale at 97 kg.
