Israel Unleashes Anti-Polish
Campaign Over Restitution Law

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has lashed out at Poland for what he claimed was “an immoral and anti-Semitic law,” adding: “Israel has no intention of turning a blind eye to the shameful conduct of the anti-democratic Polish government.” Poland had updated a law by setting a 30-year limit on challenges to property-restitution decisions. It was introduced to eliminate scamsters who have used fake documents to reclaim property allegedly belonging to long-dead former owners. But Israel and worldwide Jewry claim the change targeted Holocaust survivors trying to regain their rightful property. The property was seized and damaged by the Germans during the war and nationalized by the Soviet-imposed post-war communist regime. “As long as I’m Prime Minister, Poland will not pay for German crimes,” Mateusz Morawiecki retorted.
