Irena Sendler Art Contest
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – The Piast Institute is sponsoring its second Irena Sendler Art Contest for the young people in the Polish American community. It is open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 21. The contest will run through the month of October to commemorate this years’ Polish Heritage month. There will be five age categories and three prizes will be given in each. All forms of art, photography, drawing, painting, essays, and poetry are eligible.
The contest honors Irena Sendler one of Poland’s great heroines who risked her life to save over 2,500 Jewish children from the Holocaust. This year marks the 5th anniversary of her death. The development of the artistic ability of children and youth is a fitting tribute to someone who risked so much so that children could live.
All art projects must be postmarked by October 31st in order to be eligible for prizes. For more information and an application please contact Malgosia at: michalowska@piastinstitute.org or call at: 313.733.4535.
