The word for today is – HYBRID – which comes from the Latin word – HYBRIDA.
When you mix two distict races. breeds, varieties, or species the production or offspring is called -HYBRID. Hybrid is the offspring of two animals or plants of different breeds.
The original meaning or use of the word in ancient times was to identify the offspring of a Roman with a non-Roman or the offspring of a freeman with a slave. In ancient Rome there were many hybrids. Originally the word applied just to the crossbreeding of persons. Today it applies to many things including automobiles.
