Our StopActHR1226.org website has become the subject of multiple DDoS (Distributed-Denial-of-Service) attacks last week. As a result, you were not able to use it. The DDoS is a cyber-attack which is typically accomplished by flooding the targeted website with hostile and excessive requests in an attempt to overload systems and prevent some or all legitimate requests from being fulfilled. All attacks took place through Polish servers. The strongest attack, on March 29, 2018, was carried out in such a crude and unsophisticated way that it led not only to the failure of our site, but also affected dozens of other websites from various countries that have nothing to do with our site, except that they were hosted on the same server. This kind of attack, which is almost an act of cyber-terrorism, is a violation of property rights, privacy and the freedom of speech. It meant a decrease in revenues for many companies. This attack was carried out through servers of Interia.pl, a portal belonging to the German Bauer Media Group.
In Poland, DoS or DDoS attacks may be considered a crime under art. 268 § 2 k.k. (Penal Code) with penalties that include up to 3 years of imprisonment. In accordance with art. 268 § 3 k. k., perpetrators causing a substantial material damage may face a prison sentence between 3 months and 5 years. Also, in the US, hacker attacks may be considered a federal crime under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act with penalties that include years of imprisonment.
We have made every effort to prevent further interference in the functioning of our site.
We look forward to receiving your further support for our initiative.
