Greenpoint. The Transition is a series of cultural and educational activities: workshops, lectures, artistic happenings, and much more. Realized in New York, USA by the Culture Shock Foundation from May to December 2015, the program is targeted at Poles and everyone interested in Polish culture and history.
The first edition took place in 2014. This year’s edition consists of: photography, culinary, & theatrical workshops along with lectures, sport activities, artistic happenings, and more. A special addition to the program will be the oral history project “American Dream in Greenpoint”—we will be gathering and archiving video and audio materials with histories of Poles that immigrated to the United States before 1989. The material will be shown at different locations in Greenpoint and will end up at the Emigration Museum in Gdynia, Poland.
Marta Pawlaczek, Vice President of Culture Shock Foundation: Within “Greenpoint. The Transition” a variety of inventive and attractive cultural activities will be provided. There will be something for youths and adults, Poles, those with Polish roots, and other New Yorkers interested in Polish culture and history, for both Polish and English speakers. All of the activities will take place in Greenpoint—we would like to draw attention to the changes that are happening right now in this neighborhood and join the public discussion about its Polish heritage and the neighborhood’s future.

The Transition 2015 is realized in cooperation with multiple Polish and American organizations: Brooklyn Public Library, Dobra Polska Szkoła Foundation, New York Dance & Arts Innovations, Slavic Art Ensemble, Artbox Atelier, Polska Running TEAM, Polish Cultural Institute in New York, Emigration Museum in Gdynia, Le Fond, Crepeteria, and others.
