CONNECTICUT – Darek Barcikowski was recently appointed the first honorary consul of Poland in Hartford, Connecticut.

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski signed a decision No 102 on September 12, 2016 on the establishment of the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Hartford (Connecticut) and on October 4, 2016 appointed Darek Barcikowski as the Honorary Consul of Poland in Hartford.

As the Honorary Consul Darek Barcikowski will serve for the development of friendly relations and economic, cultural and scientific cooperation between the Republic of Poland and the United States of America and will be responsible for Polish citizens staying in his consular district by helping them and protecting their rights and as well as representing the rights and interests of the Republic of Poland in his consular district.

Biography:

Darek Barcikowski is the founder and managing partner of White Eagle Media where for over 13 years and he has served as publisher of a series of Polish language newspapers published throughout the country. He has been a lifelong advocate for Polish – American involvement in civic affairs and public service. In 2008, Barcikowski launched the ‘Polonia Votes’ project with a mission to get one million Polish Americans to the polls during the Presidential Elections.

Barcikowski serves as Executive Director of the American Polish Advisory Council, a Washington, DC based non-profit representing political interests of the Polish American community and chairs a task force charged with admitting Poland to the Visa Waiver Program. Barcikowski was the main organizer of a conference at Yale University in December of 2014 entitled: Poland’s Emerging Role in Shaping Global Security and the US-Polish Partnership, which featured prominent Polish American scholars, politicians, military experts and diplomats. He has served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club, Salem Main Streets, the Salem Education Foundation and the Rotary Club as well as the Polish American Communication Initiative National Advisory Council and the Polish American Council at the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in New York. Barcikowski is a frequent lecturer on US-Polish relations and Polish American political engagement.
