First Blind Climber To Reach
The Summit of Mt. Everest
To Speak At Felician University

Rutherford, NJ – Felician University invites the media to a very special event. Felician University in partnership with the South Bergen Jointure Commission (SBJC) and the non-profit No Barriers USA, will sponsor a professional event on September 4th that will bring together educators and community leaders to work on ways to best educate students with disabilities in the ”least restrictive environment as possible,” as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Act.

Felician will welcome American athlete, author, and motivational speaker Erik Weihenmayer who in 2001 became the first blind climber to reach the summit of Mount Everest. This faculty convocation will be held from 10 am to 12:30 pm at Breslin Auditorium on Felician’s Lodi campus located at 262 South Main St in Lodi.

Felician University’s International Center for Autism and Disabilities Research in Education, or I-CAdRE is partnering with the South Bergen Jointure Commission, a public school district providing special education services for nearly 400 students throughout southern Bergen and neighboring counties. The partnership will be assisted by No Barriers USA, a non-profit organization that works to transform people’s lives by providing transformative educational experiences. Convocation speaker Erik Weihenmayer uses adversity as an advantage in guiding students, parents and teachers through the transformative curriculum developed by No Barriers.

Felician is proud to sponsor this collaborative event and looks forward to continuing partnerships in the development of educational programming for children across all learning communities.
