Felician University Designated
A Purple Heart University
Rutherford, NJ – April 25, 2019 – Felician University was named a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart on May 1, 2019. This award recognizes the university’s effort in providing services to military members, student veterans and their families.The Ceremony was held on the quad at the Rutherford campus. Father John O’Neil blessed the ceremony with an opening prayer followed by a welcoming speech from President Anne M. Prisco. This ceremony also featured a performance by the Felician Gospel Choir.
Felician’s Military Friendly Degree Programs have been designed specifically to meet the needs of veterans and members of the military. These fast-track programs feature evening classes in eight-week sessions that allow military students to further their education with other veterans and adult students while working during the day.
Felician University provides various programs, services and staff support to enhance the academic experience and overall well-being of student veterans. They have access to study skills assistance and peer tutors at the Center for Learning, free private services at Felician’s Counseling Center, and spiritual guidance through the Campus Ministry program. Felician also offers services and programs for student vetereans such as the Military Grant, Yellow Ribbon Program, and Military Services Staff.
Joseph Belardo, the New Jersey State Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said the group is, “working to recognize colleges and universities, towns, and counties that exemplify service to veterans and show genuine concern. Veterans need guidance, understanding, support and a friendly environment.”
