The words for today are ECCENTRIC, ABNORMAL, and IDIOSYNCRASY. ECCENTRIC comes from the Latin word EX, meaning OUT and the Greek word KENTROS, meaning CENTER. Today the word means unconventional or departed from the norm, since it meant out of the center. The word ABNORMAL comes from the Latin word AB, meaning away from and NORMA, meaning square. Abnormal means unusual, irregular, or not typical because then someone would be away from the square. IDIOSYNCRASY comes from three Latin words: IDIO means self or private, SYN means together, and CRACY means mixture. IDIOSYNCRASY means odd or peculiar behavior, because someone is acting in a manner that is unique to himself.
