Donate Blood And Receive
2 Tickets To Meadowlands State Fair

Clifton Health Department and PBA #36 Seek Donors for 6/23 Blood Drive

CLIFTON, NJ – While we don’t know what to expect with summer weather, the forecast for the summer blood supply is rather predictable: high demand, low supply.  According to Community Blood Services:

  • Every 2.5 seconds someone needs blood – a friend, a family member – or maybe even you!
  • Less than 5% of the population donates blood, yet 80% of the population needs blood.
  • Nearly 4 million Americans would die each year without life-saving blood transfusions.

We can’t do much about the weather, but there’s certainly something we can do about the decreased local stock of blood: Donate blood!  Rain or shine, on Thursday, June 23, the Bloodmobile will be parked in front of Clifton City Hall, 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, where blood donations will be accepted from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.  Courtesy of State Fair, each successful donor will receive 2 tickets to the upcoming Meadowlands State Fair.

PBA #36 joins the Clifton Health Department in hosting Clifton’s Community Blood Drive to help keep our area hospitals well-supplied with vital blood and blood components.  People in general good health and weighing over 110 pounds are encouraged to donate blood, so long as it has been at least 56 days since a prior donation. Participants are asked to bring photo ID with signature and should be sure to eat a hearty meal shortly before giving blood. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. For appointments or eligibility information call Community Blood Services at 201-251-3703. Learn more at

Hemoglobin and blood pressure are checked during the initial screening process.  Successful donors will also find out their blood type.  (Before donated blood is added to a hospital’s stock, it is tested for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV to make sure it is safe to use.   If a donor’s blood tests positive for any of those diseases, the blood cannot be transfused. The donor would be notified of the positive lab result and advised to see their medical provider.)

Often blood donation is described as a gift of love or a gift of life.  In this case, however, there’s a gift of thanks: State Fair is offering each donor 2 tickets to the Meadowlands State Fair which, starting June 23, will be celebrating 30 years of summer fun.   At the largest fair in the New York area with over 150 rides and attractions, fairgoers can enjoy food from over 50 vendors and choose from a wide range of exhilarating rides providing panoramic views of the fair and New York City like the Batcopter and the Sky Ride.  Meanwhile, kids can adventure through the largest Kiddieland in New Jersey, finding rides and entertainment that will keep them amused throughout the entire night.  Please visit for more information.

Please make blood donation a priority! Even if you’ve never donated blood in the past, please consider becoming a blood donor or asking someone to donate on your behalf.  It’s unknown what the weather will be on June 23, but for anyone donating blood that day, the summer forecast will feature fun at the Meadowlands Fair!
