The word for today is CYBERNETICS – which is the Greek word for the Latin – GUBERNATOR. Both mean – HELMSMAN – the pilot of a ship or boat, the one who steers the ship.
Cybernetics illustrates the dominance of the mind over the rest of the body system, mainly, the nervous system. It also refers to the modern systems of technology which is so prominent in our lives. A gubernatorial race is about the election of the state’s helmsman. The governor is the one who steers the ship of state. The spelling was changed over the years. The letter U became an O and the B became the letter V. Perhaps you have always mused about the letter N in the spelling of the word – government. The letter N exists in the word because of the spelling of – gubernator.
