Clifton Memorial Day Parade
Needs Your Support

Flags julyforwebNEW JERSEY – The Clifton Memorial Day Parade, a Clifton tradition, is being planned again for May 26th at 9 AM. The annual parade honors those who gave their lives for our country. Our men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice so the committee is asking for Clifton residents to come and show how grateful they are to these men and women.

The Showband of the East – our Clifton High School Marching Band – will again lead the parade along with the New Caledonia Bag Pipers Band of Kearny and other bands from surrounding cities, marchers from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Avenue of Flags volunteers, American Legion, VFW posts and military transports.

The parade begins at Allwood and Hepburn Roads and will proceed down Allwood Road to Merrill Road, ending with a ceremony at Chelsea Park.

Organizations who would like to participate may call organizer Frank Gaccione at 973-773-3788. Volunteers are needed to march in the parade, each carrying the name of one of over 300 men who were killed in combat and whose names appear on the Main Memorial Monument.  If you are unable to march in the parade, please show your support and gratitude by greeting the marchers along the parade route and at Chelsea Park. Please support the efforts of these volunteers and line the parade route, cheering them on. Bring your chair, fly a flag, wear red, white and blue and cheer loud!

Volunteers are also needed to raise the 1572 flags at 6 AM that morning, and taken down at 7 PM. The Avenue of Flags started by John Biegel Jr. is in its 11th year and continues to be a beautiful sight. Have you ever passed the Avenue of Flags and seen them flying in the wind? Be a part of this breathtaking sight and join the dedicated volunteers on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 6 AM. If you have any questions on the parade, please call co-ordinator Frank Gaccione at 973-773-3788 or for any questions on the Avenue of Flags call John Biegel at 973-519-0858.
