Christopher Lukenda Named Marshal

NEW JERSEY – The General Pulaski Parade Committee of Linden proudly announces the selection of Christopher Lukenda as Linden’s 2013 Marshal for the Pulaski Parade which will be held in New York City on October 6, 2013. Each year the organization selects an outstanding person of Polish heritage from the city to lead the contingent in the tri state parade in New York City. Marshals are selected based on their dedication to serving the City of Linden and preserving Polish pride.
“I am honored to represent the City of Linden, New Jersey Pulaski Day Parade contingent and will represent them with true Polish pride”, Lukenda said.
Lukenda, is the son of the late Walter and Laura (Matlosz) Lukenda.
Born and raised in Linden Christopher has lived his entire life in Linden. He is married to his wife of 24 years, Sue (Praschak) Lukenda and is father to Samantha (Miss Polonia 2007) and Tiffany (Jr. Miss Polonia 2007). Christopher is the youngest of seven siblings which, include Captain Larry Lukenda, Dr. Richard Lukenda, Dr. Michael Lukenda, Dr. Elaine Lukenda, Sr. Michelle Lukenda and Dr. Kevin Lukenda.
Lukenda is Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician with the Linden Fire Department for over twenty years and is the State Secretary for the New Jersey State Firefighter’s Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA), the largest Firefighter Labor Organization in the state. He is also Chairman of the NJFMBA Valor Awards Committee and is currently President of the Linden Firefighter’s Union FMBA Local 34. Before receiving his calling as a Firefighter in 1992, Christopher previously was proprietor of a delicatessen/catering business and was also a Corrections Officer with the Union County Department of Corrections.
Lukenda is a graduate of St. Theresa’s Grammar School and Roselle Catholic High School and attended Union County College. Christopher is also an avid cook with culinary expertise. Besides the traditional Polish cuisine that has been passed down from his mother, such as Golomki and Pierogi, he also enjoys cooking an array of ethnic classics and soon aspires to go back to the restaurant industry, which he enjoys very much.
Besides cooking, Christopher loves entertaining and developing projects around the house in his spare time. He is an avid dog lover with two Golden Retrievers. Time together with his family is something that is cherished and made a priority, no matter how busy a week. “There is a great importance of gathering the family around the dinner table a few times a week; that brings everyone closer together.”
Accompanying Mr. Lukenda down Fifth Ave. in New York City as the 2013 Miss Polonias will be Kellianne Domenico, a junior at William Paterson University and Julia Daria Wyrzuc, a senior at Linden High School.
Karolina Kepa and Marika Ficner have been selected as the 2013 Junior Miss Polonias. Both girls are in the fifth grade and attend School 6 in Linden.
The General Pulaski Parade Committee organization is dedicated to preserving the memory of American patriot Generals Casmir Pulaski and Thaddeus Kosciuszko who fought for American freedom during the Revolutionary War.
