Artist’s Oil Portrait Being Auctioned Off


Proceeds To Purchase Medical Emergency Equipment for Children and Senior Citizens in Poland

Paintings of Leokadia Makarska-Cermak are often auctioned off to benefit sick children and hospitals in Poland (check her website to view paintings It is worth to mention that among other charitable auctions, Makarska-Cermak participates in the auctions organized by Leaders of Kłodzko, Poland. In the auction in 2012, a small reproduction of her landscape painted in Arizona and titled: Trees of Happiness, was auctioned off for 6 100 PLN (= $2,000.00, it represents a fifth of the total amount collected at that time). This amount was sent entirely to the Oncology and Hematology Pediatric Medical Academy in Wroclaw. Also, it is important to emphasize that Leokadia Makarska-Cermak’s painting supported the Grand Orchestra of the Christmas Charity Foundation (Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy or shortly WOSP) in the Grand Finale 2013.  The reproduction of her famous painting titled: Golden Angels over Lower Manhattan: Tribute to the Victims of the September 11th Attacks, was auctioned off for 4,700 PLN. In 2013, Leokadia Makarska-Cermak painted an original oil portrait on canvas of Jurek Owsiak, the Founder and Executive Director of the Grand Orchestra of the Christmas Charity Foundation (WOSP), in order to praise Owsiak’s work making positive changes in this world. His portrait was painted specifically for the XXII Grand Finale of WOSP, and Mrs. Leokadia Makarska-Cermak sent the framed oil on canvas to WOSP in Warszawa for the 22nd Grand Finale. The portrait was sent from New York, because the artist lives and creates in New York. Leokadia Makarska-Cermak is the artistic name of Leokadia Čermáková. She is an architect and a European artist who has exhibited her projects and paintings widely throughout the United States and Europe. Makarska-Cermak’s list of honors includes presentations of portraits to such public figures as New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in 2009, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in 1998, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer in 2001, and Founder and Executive Director of the Congress of Italian-Americans Organization, Inc., Mary C. Sansone in 2007. Also, Makarska-Cermak painted portraits of the former Czech President Vaclav Havel, Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, Jerzy Owsiak, Founder and Executive Director of the WOSP Charitable Foundation and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and many others.
