AFP Commends Gov. Christie’s Call
For Elimination of Realty Transfer Fee
Urges Legislature To Get Rid of “Foolish” Tax
MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ – Americans for Prosperity is commending Gov. Christie who earlier today called for the elimination of the Realty Transfer Fee, or better known as an exit tax.
“This legislation is foolish. New Jerseyans are leaving our state because they are taxed too much and yet the state gives them one more reminder as to why they should never return,” submitted Justin Henson, grassroots coordinator for AFP’s New Jersey chapter. “Taxes like these show how out of touch Trenton is with the struggles of every day folks.”
“Replacing the lost money would be easy. If we were to lower the tax burden, cut spending, and create jobs as the governor has called for, then our residents wouldn’t be fleeing. Billions of dollars in tax money have left New Jersey and the answer we get from the leaders of the Legislature is to tax more—be it a bag tax, water tax, and the most recent target, the gas tax.”
“There are some great proposals calling for reduction of property taxes, reducing our sales tax back to 6%, and eliminating the estate and inheritance taxes. The governor’s call for eliminating this tax gets added to the growing list of common sense proposals to make New Jersey more affordable. The Legislature should join the governor and get to work on getting rid of this tax this year,” Henson concluded.
