A Grand Polish American
Heritage Month Celebration
WASHINGTON, D.C. // The Embassy of the Republic of Poland arranged a gala event, with dinner extraordinary, in celebration of Polish American Heritage Month here on October 12, 2016. The evening’s host was Slawomir Zagorski, Ph.D., First Counselor and Head of the Public Affairs, Science, Education and Technology Section. Co-sponsor of the evening’s cultural rendezvous was The International Club of DC, led by its president – Sanjaya Hettihewa. (in photo: Cellist Maria Leszczynska)
The erudite audience exceeding 100 persons was delighted with the various instrumental and vocal presentations of the artists performing en solo, as a duet and the namesake trio. Compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, Mikolaj Gorecki, Grazyna Bacewicz, Ignacy Paderewski, with various lyrics by Adam Mickiewicz, Bodhan Zaleski and Adam Asnyk all contributed mightily the musical celebration of Polish culture on this evening. Additionally, Piosenka litewska (Lithuanian Song) was also presented in fraternal recognition of the historic Polish-Lithuanian Union, and its subsequent Commonwealth, spanning the 410 years of 1385-1795.

As per the program guide: The age gap between Ewa and Maria is big enough to say that there are three generations represented on stage – the mother at the piano, the elder daughter – vocals and piano, and the younger playing the piano, cello and saxophone. We can listen to their performances in various configurations and different instrumental combinations. And since there are not many original compositions for a trio, the band recurs to adaptions and arrangements of the selected works. Masterpieces and Romanticism are the core of their repertoire.
The Multi Trio performance did not disappoint even one iota … in fact the artists all excelled in their various music and voice disciplines proving to be a most unique, talented and entertaining familial enterprise that is worthy of its glowing critical accolades both in Poland and when touring abroad.
